Golden Spike National Historic Site

This week's adventure took us all the way to the north end of the Great Salt Lake to Promontory, where the Union Pacific and Central Pacific Railroads met on May 10th, 1869. There is a guided tour around the functioning steam locomotives. There is also an informative video and a replica golden spike you can take out to the commemorative railroad tie for a photo op. While we were there, we found out that there is an annual Winter Steam Festival on December 26th through 30th that will have the locomotives running and hand car rides. You will also be allowed up onto the locomotives, which is usually off limits. Activity Rating: 0-10
Kid fun: 5
Difficulty: 0
Cost: $5 (National Parks Pass gets you in for free)
